Moving to North Yorkshire

Any advice or feedback about moving to North Yorkshire?
We've got young children and jobs that going forward are likely to require weekly travel to Leeds.
I like places like Malton and Helmsley but Thirsk has a lot of appeal.
We'd like to be as close as we can get to the coast but a reasonable commute to Leeds when we have to meetings etc.
All suggestions or advice welcome.

That's a heck of a journey if you are commuting to Leeds if you were doing everything day. Perhaps rethink?

Malton has the station if that helps with commuting.
What are you into in terms of facilities, supermarkets, restaurants, cinema etc? Helmsley would be too small for me based on those.

Sorry I wasn't clear, will need to go to leeds about once a week, hopefully even less.

Not bothered about a cinema. Supermarket and stuff for the children like sports clubs would be a massive plus. That's why I'm thinking Thirsk is more practical and then get the train to leeds when we have to.

Harrogate and surrounding areas such as Knaresborough and Ripley are absolutely lovely. Not sure about living there though. Richmond is a really nice market town too, just over an hour to Leeds though. Barnard Castle is also a nice market town, lots of shops and a couple of bars/restaurants, also just over an hours drive but its straight up the A1 and across the A66 so not a particularly strenuous drive

To be honest, the majority of North Yorkshire is lovely, it'd be best spending a weekend up there if possible and travelling around and get a feel which area you prefer

Thirsk might be good for you then (amazing countryside too!) probably depends how close to the coast you want to be though - over a hour mights mean casual trips are a bit more of an effort than you'd like.
Harrogate etc mentioned above are definitely more of the Leeds commuter towns, depends on what is most important to you in terms of distance.

Malton is very affordable compared to Harrogate and surrounding areas - like half the price
