I’d like to move, but DH won’t.

Currently in a purpose built 2bed. We split one of the bedrooms to make it 3 bed. There are 4 of us. It’s a squeeze to say the least. We’ve done a lot of work over the last 7 yrs to the house & made the garden look nice.

A purpose built 3 bed has come up for sale nearby. It’s has bigger bedrooms, everything. No structural work needed, maybe a bit of decorating & the garden will need attention in time.

DH will not hear a word of moving he will not even entertain the idea. Its literally down the road so not far away. I reckon the price difference, if we were to value ours we’d be looking at around £15k more for this one tops.

I really do think we need the bigger space. Especially now the kids are getting older. I know he won’t budge, and he pays the mortgage so how do I let this go, it’s really taking over my mind & I look at it everyday on rightmove! I did say I think we should have a look & he cut me off straight away!

I'd be surprised if it would only be £15k more. Have you had yours valued? Have you factored in moving costs, solicitors, stamp duty?
Is your mortgage comfortably affordable at the moment?
If this house hadn't come up for sale, would you have been considering moving?

Hopefully if new stamp duty threshold announced you could use this as a reason also.

Is there any way you could convert the loft space?
That way you get an extra bedroom with maybe ensuite facilities too?

Deep down I know it’s just a dream, something I just need to forget about & let go. Yes our mortgage is comfortably affordable at the moment. It’s just sometimes, we’ll most of the time and I think it’s because I’m at home more, the lack of space really annoys me. Sick of bruises on my legs because I’m constantly banging them against the bed in our bedroom as there’s hardly any space to walk around it, kids bedroom no room for a wardrobe, the bathroom is absolutely tiny, like I said the house was purposely built as a 2bed, for a couple probably.

There’s no headspace in the loft to make it a bedroom. We don’t need another bedroom just bigger ones. DH isn’t a fan of spending money if we don’t need to. We’ve talked about having the loft boarded up to make storage space but unless we have the money saved he won’t have it done, like anything, if we don’t have money saved, it won’t happen.
