Should I buy this air cooler? Or has the wisdom of Mumsnet got a better idea?

I've been thinking of buying a mobile air con or air cooler for a while and just happened to come across this one today.

It looks great, but then what do I know? Something else might be better.

Does anyone have an air cooler/ air con unit that's easily portable and actually works?

Look at independent reviews for this type of product. You can find this type of air cooler from about £25. You will get the same cooling effect from putting a bowl of cold water in front of a standard fan. I would not recommend spending money on this type of air cooler.

This is an evaporative air cooler which works best in areas of low humidity (i.e. not the UK). That isn’t to say it doesn’t work at all but it doesn’t work well.

Also, it increases humidity in the house so it’s not good if you have any issues with damp.

Looked at those a couple of years ago and decided to go with an actual air con instead. Much more expensive but definitely worth it.

I tried an air cooler last year but it just doesn’t work well here - just made the air warm and more humid. Was very disappointing!

Oh well, that seems fairly comprehensive.
