Help!! honest Builder needed in Walthamstow/East London

Afternoon all!

I need help....we are in desparate need of an honest builder who can do a side extension for us. Money is really tight but we've just got enough to get it done (we think) but can't waste any putting things right when builders do things wrong!! Can anyone in the area help or point me in the right direction? We just want some recommendations from people who've actually had work done and aren't just 'friends' putting reviews on sites!!!!

Thanks all!!

Try the Walthamstow Recommends Facebook group - you can usually get a sense of whether recommendations/reviews are genuine.

Sorry can't help with a builder but building work costs usually go over - you should ideally have a 10% contingency fund.

@earsup may be able to help you... She helped me with an Electrician who I know is based in East London (I'm SE), and he's been great.

Smallgoon · 09/07/2020 00:27

@earsup Sorry if you don't like being mentioned in this way. You were a big help in suggesting Adam (electrician) and he's currently rewiring my entire flat!

earsup · 09/07/2020 11:58

Hi
pleased Adam is doing your job...I have seen him several times when i go for a walk along the canal and we wave...!..I am lucky and have a few builders in family etc so never needed to look for them...the walthamstow reccomends fb page is good...there are some builders suggested who have helped out people who got ripped off...you need to join that group and search...I know Radek and his team are very good, John laws for roofing...the good people always have a waiting list...you may have to wait for a long time but its worth it...sometimes there are cancellations for jobs..I can suggest a carpenter and tiler if you do jobs separately..peter..07704564463. excellent...And Adam the electrician mentioned here also excellent.

Smallgoon · 09/07/2020 13:09

@earsup oooh, I potentially may need a carpenter as mine has done his back in and my new kitchen has just arrived! Also need a tiler for my kitchen so perhaps I will contact Peter (once I know for sure my carpenter can't work). He's the guy that did your bathroom right?

You seem to be coming up trumps for me! Grin

earsup · 09/07/2020 21:00

hi
yes peter did my bathroom and all my tiling and carpentry...I had to once manage 2 house renovations for my aunt so kept all the details of the good people !..and fired the rubbish workers...plenty of those out there...!!...the best kitchen fitter i know is booked at least a year ahead...mark smith...lives romford and wont travel far....he can pick and choose jobs....good luck.

Second the "Walthamstow recommends" Facebook group. I get all of my tradesmen form there. There are loads which get repeated again and again. We've just been using "radek builder and cleaner" who is always recommended in there. His details are on Fb.

Smallgoon · 10/07/2020 18:47

@earsup Sadly Peter said Forest Hill was too far for him Sad, but seems my Carpenter has pulled through and can start work next Tuesday, so it's all good Smile.

Thanks for your help in any case. My brother is going to retain Adam's number because he's been so impressed with him. We ended up expanding our additional brief to keep him on, thanks again!
