D7 40W screw bulb - what to replace it with?

Does anyone know a more eco bulb to replace a (finally gone, very old) D7 40W screw built for a desk lamp (so spot shaped)? Google is not helping, and I don’t really want to go into Robert Dyas, show it to them, and ask for help, which is what I’d normally do.

Can you take a picture of it and post it here. Not finding much for D7

I don't know what a D7 bulb is, but I found this.

I would go straight to an LED lamp that fits, unless yours has a dimmer (which will no longer work)

The one in my link says it is E27, which is the common size of screw-fitting used in Europe (american screw-in bulbs are not quite the same)

if your old one was 40Watts, an LED of around 8Watt will be plenty bright enough. I find LEDs actually come out a bit brighter than the charts suggest.

If I've understood correctly you'll need an LED reflector bulb around 6W to replicate a 40 watt incandescent bulb. The screenshot is from eBay and shows they are available in different sizes. You'll also need to get the correct lumens for the kind of light you want, e.g. warm, cool, daylight.

A word of warning: we have a metal Anglepoise desk lamp and the LED spot we out in it overheated and blew pretty quickly. If LEDs overheat they can go and they are not cheap.

or if you post a photo (put a ruler in the pic to show dimensions) that will help.

Wow, so many replies! I have taken a photo and hopefully it will upload (first time posting a picture).

If I can’t get an eco one, just a normal one that fits would be OK. It says Tesco D7 40W on it (the photo doesn’t show it).

And it’s for a metal desk lamp which I mostly use when I need to read on paper, so I’d like warm but quite bright.

Is it a small screw or normal screw? Not sure from picture

ThroughThoroughThoughTough · 06/07/2020 13:25

Does this help? It looks small to me but I don’t have another to compare it to.

Yes it looks like a small edison screw (SES) which is 14mm in diameter

Thanks, dementedpixie! I would never have worked that out on my own, I really appreciate your help.
