What do you think of this terrace extension idea?

I'm buying a terrace house with this foorplan, and want to do this to it... Take out the French doors and door in kitchen to sort of open it up but have the dining bit tucked around behind the kitchen.

Due to it being south facing I'm thinking a solid roof.

Thoughts?

Looks great! Will your living room get enough light?

It has a big open plan room at the moment with French doors one end and big window the other end?

Solid roof will be dark - you need the whole roof to be glass as in your examples to work the way you suggest.

What you could do is separate off the front half of your living room, knock down the wall between kitchen and dining area, put kitchen where dining is now, utility and downstairs loo where kitchen is (none of these need lots of light), then your extension becomes dining / family room.

My friend copied this exactly on a nearly identical house to yours, it's gorgeous. She has a south west facing house and the temp is fine, the glass roof makes it.

I think there's a FB group called Houstalk where the original blogger posts and other posters have used this design.
