Loft Conversion, Hertfordshire. Any recommendations? Or dire warnings?

We are thinking of getting our loft converted in the new year - obviously subject to Covid-related job retention, new taxes, recession etc.

If we do go ahead, has anyone in hertfordshire used a company that they recommend? And would anyone mind putting their approx costs so i can see which quotes end up being cowboys? Smile

I’m looking at a fairly straightforward velux conversion with no bathroom, but a slightly complicated staircase up that would have to turn a right angle half way and be unsupported so imagine That will bump up the costs. I’ve been reading the older loft-conversion threads and have picked up a lot of useful info (esp staged payments and get timetables for each part) but wondered if anyone had any additional words of wisdom to impart?

Hopeful bump?

The staircase sounds fairly standard to be honest. Have you had plans drawn up?

Sorry - i didn’t get any notification of a reply.

Thank you - and good to hear an L-shaped staircase isn’t an odd requirement. All the examples i’ve been looking at online seem yo have single straight staircases.

No plans yet - as i said, just beginning to think about it now, and all the loft conversion companies’ websites i’ve looked at seem to offer that as part of the package. Is it standard to get an architect involved independently before that instead?

Are you north/east/south herts OP? I’m in South herts and thinking this very question myself!

I'm in Herts and have put in a planning application for a loft extension. I've used a great architect and currently getting builders details so can pass on in due course.

Ooh, yes please!
I think i count as South Herts, SisterAgatha, so v.interested to hear if you go ahead. It’s a bit daunting looking at all the variables to begin with, and i’m worried that we’re close enough to London to be hit with their prices as well.

I'm South West Herts. I'll PM you.
