Hi Property Gurus....need some advice on baths!

We are long overdue a bathroom refurb...it's v small but by nicking some pace from the adjacent (huge) room, we will end up with a bathroom that's 314 x 214 roughly

We know we can get the tub IN as we're taking down a wall....however, I don't know if anybody would ever be able to remove it?

And would YOU buy a home with a Japanese bath? We obviously would be we are complete Japanophiles!!

We are beginning to think it might end up being an expensive mistake as we already know that we will need to reinforce the floor.....

I have a wooden ‘square’ one, its amazing, you can comfortably fit four people in mine if you want to. The only downside is obviously requiring more water than a standard tub. I can use soaps/shower gels etc in it, it generally rinses clean, I can’t use bleach on it and it needs oiling once a year.

I have the wood bathroom at the bottom of the link, but I have the ‘square’ rather than the rectangular bath. It has removable benches to sit on and removable T shaped supports if you want to lay back and relax in the bath. I absolutely love it and get a lot of use out of it. I’m going to have the en-suite done in the same style but minus the tub.

It would put me off, I love lying down in a bath.

Ifailed · 03/07/2020 19:30

it would be a hell of a long way to go there, just for a bath, & by the time I got back I'd probably need another one.

krustykittens · 03/07/2020 19:34

I would love one, wouldn't put me off at all!

wantmorenow · 03/07/2020 20:02

They make plastic foldaway/inflatable ones! Thank you PP.

My Christmas wishlist, have shower only and miss an occasional bath. Gamechanger.

I have no idea what a 'japanese bath' - have googled but to no avail. This is despite me having visited Japan too Blush

pontiouspilates · 03/07/2020 20:08

The tiny flat I had about 30yrs ago had a Japanese bath and it was utterly wonderful. Much nicer than standards IMO. I've wanted another ever since.

Its just a deep bath, so you can sit up and your whole body is submerged, some are small so you can’t lay down, others are longer so you can.
Smallgoon · 03/07/2020 20:32

@SimonJT Ahh ok, thanks for letting me know. I'm sure it's amazing as are more things from Japan. I recently installed a Japanese bidet toilet which I'd coveted ever since returning from Japan. No regrets.

tractorvancar · 03/07/2020 20:35

I had to google it but I love it, it'd be an attractive feature for me!

Smashtastic · 03/07/2020 20:54

A wooden bathroom! Well knock me sideways I had no idea that sort of thing existed 😂 it's very nice. You must be very rich @SimonJT

I really like it and despite it being wood its actually very practical, originally I just wanted a wooden slatted shower tray. It smells really nice as well, a saunaish smell but not as harsh. The non-wood bits are original exposed brick (flat is in an ex industrial building) and the contrast works really well.

Ha, I wish! Essentially my whole budget for the flat went on it, until recently I had a bedsheet nailed to the wall as my blinds 😂

SpeedofaSloth · 03/07/2020 21:27

I would love one, now my kids are older Smile

Parkandride · 03/07/2020 21:34

Oh god I want one!

And the toilet too, the Japanese have bathrooms right

You can just get a Japanese toilet seat and keep the same loo, or just have a shattaf fitted, same effect but cheaper.

So I could get my knees AND my tits under water simultaneously?? I want one!!!
As a general rule, really don't like shower cubicles, much prefer a shower over a bath. Could suffer a cubicle for one of these though.

PenelopePitstop49 · 03/07/2020 21:45

I'd love one! It looks amazing.

We remodelled our family bathroom about 6 years ago, and DH went unsupervised into the Bath Store. He ordered an oversized bath which is nearly 7 foot long and about 4 foot wide.... great for him as he's very tall, but I can't even sit up in the bastard thing, I bob around like a cork trying not to get my hair wet. It's horrid, and hence I never use it. And it takes up most of the bathroom, meaning we had to have a compact sink and toilet.

We nearly divorced over that bathroom Angry

I’m six foot and when sat up I can be submerged upto my neck if I fill it enough. We use it 2/3 times a week, luckily we don’t have a water meter!
sadannie · 03/07/2020 21:47

Can someone link one? I have googled and there's so many options

Murmurur · 03/07/2020 21:49

As long as I can see there is space for a full size bath, that's fine. I might pay a little more for one that has a full sized bath but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker.

I have the geo double deep in the link.

Lots of places sell plastic ones that look more like standard baths, some even have a seat section shaped into the plastic.

PickAChew · 03/07/2020 22:00

Not as the only bath. No.

How can you not fit a full size bath in a 7' by 10' bathroom? Lots of people have bathrooms half that size.

Murmurur · 03/07/2020 22:05

Pickachew yes they do but not with a double shower cubicle too
