We are having to move the front door to fit into an arch as the floor needs levelling, the front door opens out and is currently about 6 inches from the staircase as you walk in! Not sure how the original setup was when the house was build in the 1930s but suspect they replaced the staircase at some point.
There is a traditional 30's arch on the outside where we hope to fit the new (yellow!!) front door, my only concern is that the door will only be 70cm wide! it's not a door we will use regularly as there is a side door next to the parking and 5 other ways to get into the house that are more practical than the existing porch/doorway combo.
