Cat hole in the kitchen

We are thinking new kitchen thoughts. Wondering about building an alcove in to house the cat bed. Anybody got a cat hole they want to share?

Mybexperience is that anything you buy or build specifically for a cat will be ignored by said cat!

High and warm. Next to the boiler, perhaps.

I have a cat hole for the cat food bowls because in our old kitchen we were always accidentally kicking the food bowls and causing spills. cats will not sleep anywhere that is designed for them to sleep.

I made it by including an open-fronted basket unit like this in the base units. I just use one basket at the top which is fitted slightly higher than it would normally be to give the cats bit more head room. I added an extra base-board at the bottom of the unit which I stuck the same vinyl flooring tiles to as the rest of the kitchen floor, the board can be removed for cleaning if needed.

Ooh I like the idea of a cat food bowl hole!

Love the idea of a feeding station. Cat beds need to be high up though. Ours has actually accepted a beanbag thing under the kitchen table but she is very old.

Isn't this going to be a case of you build a lovely nest for the cat, with care and consideration. Cat then decides the crappy box that your shopping came in, is just Star Star Star Star Star

DoNot bother, they will still prefer a bed upstairs.

Yup, my cat have never used anything that I have bought for him. He's had countless beds over the last 10 years and the little sod has ignored everyone...bar the one he pooed on in protest of me having the audacity to buy him something nice.

Apparently they like perches high up in kitchens so that they can supervise the sous chefs.

Our cat moves around according to the internal and external temperatures. Today she is outside somewhere.

pandafunfactory · 24/06/2020 19:18

She does like a hole but I think you're right it's no good for a bed but for food bowls I think it will work.

I wish I had a picture but I don't- my friend has a dog hole in her kitchen, with heating pipes along the back, slightly raised out of any draughts. The dogs are greyhounds and she had to measure out how much space they would take up lying down. It was a first for the kitchen designer Grin

They still trip her up though.

I can't imagine a cat sticking to one place though. Mine move around depending on all sorts of rules known only to them. Make sure the food hole is not near any underfloor heating pipes though.

We had a fancy ass cat bed for a while. Buggers still slept in a heap on the windowsill...

Is our cat the only one that likes lying in the floor, in the way?
