Twickenham Area

Hi all. Moving from Dublin back to London hopefully in the next month or so. Previously lived Clapham, Balham areas but they were in my single / pre-little boy life. We'd love to live Richmond/Twickenham as we both have some family and friends there, but not a lot to choose in our price range. Also we don't want to ship furniture over so need something furnished, which again, limits available properties. I'd love to get Mum's insights into other areas around there such as Whitton, or even down to Teddington, or Surbiton? Something safe, easy to get around with enough life locally so we can get to know other parents etc. Many thanks for your help!

We love in hampton, it's lovely here, however if you intend to come to London the trains from teddington are faster and quicker. You've got a nice lively town, bushy park and the river. Lots of families in teddington.

Surbiton is probably best for commuting, it's where my DS and DIL are aiming to move from London.

I personally wouldn't go to Whitton.

St Margarets and Teddington both have a similarly upmarket villagey feel, but neither are exactly cheap. Teddington has a lovely high street with Jigsaw, M&S foodhall, Bushy Park, the river and great schools. Less plane noise than St Mgs but further out ( but you do get a seat on the train.) Surbiton's train connection is faster as the other two are on the stopping service. All three have good access to Richmond and Kingston for shopping. I'd also look at the pretty Victorian detached villas in the KT2 postcode walkable to central Kingston and the river.

Thank you! That's a great help. Have seen a lovely property in Teddington and also looking at Surbiton!

Teddington and st Margaret's are lovely. Whitton isn't bad - it's tried to rebrand itself as 'Whitton Village' and is a bit rough around the edges. The high street had improved in recent years and has some lovely bars, shops and cafes. It's one train stop / 5 mins bus / 20 minute walk to Twickenham.

But it isn't really same league as the other places yet.
