Can anyone tell me about Alcester, Warwickshire

We're expats and have been away for nearly 13 years.

I grew up in Solihull and my Mum (who I would like to be close to) now lives in Redditch. We come back to the UK each summer and rent a cottage nr Stratford upon Avon. After endless rightmoving...I've hit upon Alcester being a great place for us to come back to. Schools look excellent and it's close to both Mum and the areas we love.

Can anyone tell me more about the area? Anything at all really! One thing that might be an issue is that DH's work may require him to be in London 2-3 times per week. I can see that if we were in say Warwick or Leamington that would be much easier (excellent trains)...how would the commute work from Alcester - does anyone do it? Thank you!

That should say that Alcester would be a great place for us to come back to permanently - not just the summers. I can never get my posts right first time!

I lived in alcester until the age of 10 and some of my family still live there. The schools are good but the lack of a train station is a problem.
We are considering moving back to near that area and have been considering Leamington and Stratford due to the commute

Thank you. You’re right the train issue is a big one. So hard to find the right place!

We are in Solihull and want to move out to get a bigger house, looked at Alcester but its too far from any station whatsoever

It’s tricky isn’t it. Anywhere with a decent station is basically Solihull prices without the decent schools...Alcester schools look great

How old are your dc? Alcester has both a grammar school and a high school (for those who don’t pass the 11+). That system is not everyone’s cup of tea.

The problem with getting from there to Warwick train station is that there is only really one main way to go and so peak time can be hellish.

They are 9 and 5. Eldest is bright but who knows. Alcester Academy looks like a good plan b. Where do people tend to work if you live in Alcester? Where is commutable
