I play a game when I can't sleep where I sort out my house.

Rules simple.

Can't move but can spend endless budget on house.
what would you do?

Ooo, a favourite game too!
Buy a bit of field next door for extra garden. Actually the whole field if no budget! Replace conservatory with proper extension.
Extend rest of house to give 4 big bedrooms. Re-floor and re-decorate throughout.
Move utility to be on an external wall.
Underfloor heating.
Replace kitchen and bathrooms.
Replace glazing.
Ground or air source heating. Solar panels.
Make it detached!

Probably a whole lot more 😃

I sort of do this when I can’t sleep but to other people’s houses, they look fabulous by the time I’ve finished with them!

Did out a basement and put all the stuff in it.

I would:

  • Lay new flooring throughout
  • Covert the garage into a bedroom with wet room for my disabled son
  • Squeeze an en-suite into our bedroom
  • Covert the loft into a sewing room for me
  • Get rid of damp in utility room and have two washing machines in there and some lovely cupboards
  • Offer the Council a huge amount of money to buy the garage attached to the side of our house so we could knock it down and have a back garden
Smarten up the outside of the house back and front

Oh, and once we got the garden I would buy the most expensive climbing frame for my youngest son and one of those swinging seat things. Bliss!

Get the walls replastered to get rid of the bumps and then painted in something, anything, that didn't get dirty.

Knock kitchen and living room together with a long door window along the back it would be 9mtrs long - buy out building off next door that would have as a garage / workshop with seating area above to enjoy the views.

Re model upstairs from the current two large bedrooms and too bathrooms to 3 large bedrooms 2 en-suite and smaller family bathroom.

New bathrooms all round as current ones from the 70s.

Remodel garden and patio areas

Buy shed linked to our garage of other next door neighbour.

lovelyupnorth · 21/06/2020 11:27

Add solar panels to current solar water and new heating system - ground source.

New windows - current ones are all good and not that old but not to our taste and could have better opening positions on some.

New front and back doors.

Sounds like a fantastic game!

I would- (if I had endless budget)
Add a pantry and downstairs toilet
Convert lean to conservatory to proper extension
Landscape the front and back gardens (they are tiny)
Buy the garage behind our garden so we can run a power cable to it.
Upgrade the wiring in the house
Redo the kitchen.
All floors to engineered wood
Loft conversion
Put in en-suite to our bedroom.
Put solar panels on the house.
Extend front in line with our porch
