We have just bought a white heated towel rail for shower room, Anyone own one, was told by a couple of people that for some reason the white ones throw out more heat, is this true

No idea.... The main thing that makes a difference to heat is the surface area. All should have a btu value listed in the spec... The higher the number the more heat

Just make sure you keep them dry as we had one that rusted terribly.

The chrome ones are very prone to rust. Unless you can afford chromed brass.

Painted is better

Stainless is OK (but cheap Chinese stainless is poor quality, you can rub tarnish off with a little WD40 on a sponge, or plastic scourer if bad, but only in the direction of the brushing or the marks will show)

The bathroom shop we bought ours from said shiny chrome gives out the least heat. We are having a black one.
