Downstairs Loo - I can go dark blue , yes?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2020 20:20

It's 6'4" x 3'4"
Toilet , sink (white)
Tall white cupboard
No natural light
Floor tiles are white with a cobalt/navy pattern and grey grout
Splash back dark blue tiles.

DH is "why not just paint it white again? Or grey? Or pale blue?"

Pale blue is my least favourite colour.
White or grey -meh.

I can do bold can't I ?
I'm thinking Breton Blue or Sappphire salute (Dulux) blue verging into grey .
With white woodwork.

It's not a room to spend much time in really Grin

If it was me I'd choose a light colour as there is no natural light plus bcz it's small it will have a cupboard feel to it I think light colours make a small room look bigger too

I have gone really dark blue in downstairs loo . Everyone said it would look too dark in such a small room with so little light. It looks bloody amazing. I used Farrow and ball stiff key

MakeAWhish · 16/06/2020 20:52

I'd be tempted to go dark but a slightly contrasting colour to the dark blue tiles, say, dark green? Think it would look stunning.

fortifiedwithtea · 16/06/2020 20:55

Hi 70’s long time no speak as we are now both piggie free.

I would go dark blue if you like it. Shade is irrelevant if you have no choice but to put the light on each visit. Years ago a friend had dark blue in her bathroom and separate loo. I liked it.

TheRattleBag · 16/06/2020 20:59

You can go as mad as you want in a downstairs loo. Mine used to have a glittery gold seat - I loved it!

Grumpybuttons · 16/06/2020 20:59

We did and it looks really nice!!

Junobug · 16/06/2020 21:04

We've used a dark blue wallpaper. I love it. I figured as it's only a small room, we should go bold.

TheSimpleThings17 · 16/06/2020 21:04

I say there are no rules in a downstairs loo! Dramatic dark walls can look amazing in a small space - it’s a loo, you don’t need to make it look spacious! Find a shade you love and go for it - add a white ceiling/fancy mirror/reflective light fitting and make it a loo worth a view! Little Greene paint co also have some lovely shades of blue.

Spam88 · 16/06/2020 21:06

You can do whatever you like in a downstairs loo. I'm still pushing for full glitter walls 😍

NeverSurrender · 16/06/2020 21:11

I have Sapphire Salute in my downstairs loo and I love it! I have a black tile floor and white shutters.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/06/2020 21:38

I knew DH was so misguided .
I looked at some Pinterest ideas , most seemed to be blue with white above .

I think too "Small Room - Go for It"
Every other wall in the house is pastelly .

Go for it.

areallthenamesusedup · 16/06/2020 21:56

Can't remember what interior designer it was but she said peoples true personality comes out in their downstairs loo.....I went pink, purple and chandeliers....rest of house was oh so very neutral Smile

Go for it....everyone loves a guest toilet with personality.....and if they don't they can go home Smile

Wanttobeateacherinscotland · 16/06/2020 21:59

If it’s a small room it’s a small room. Toilets generally are so just own it and go dark blue! A toilet doesn’t need to feel any bigger IMO.

Wanttobeateacherinscotland · 16/06/2020 22:00

What about a nice printed wallpaper on one wall or is wallpaper a no go?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/06/2020 22:01

Do it!

Onekidnoclue · 16/06/2020 22:03

I painted my bathroom navy and love it. I think it looks esp good if you do the ceiling and skirting boards too.

ElephantLover · 16/06/2020 22:04

We have dark green. Very tiny room but looks stunning. All the sanitary ware is white & ive put up a couple of white picture frames. Looks stylish...Wink

IncrediblySadToo · 16/06/2020 22:05

Absolutely! Go for it. Get it fine, DH won't hate it enough to paint it out 🤣

I love dark blue

Please post a photo when you've done it

weegiemum · 16/06/2020 22:12

Ours is dark blue, not navy but very dark. We then have red and yellow tiles and some pictures and ceramics from travelling in Latin America and it's my favourite room in the house!

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 16/06/2020 22:15

I wouldn't. It could look great...but I think it'll end up looking like a dungeon.

Imagine relaxing on a hot summer's day in the garden and having to nip to the toilet.....in a dark dungeon with no sunlight (I know, dramatic, sorry). I would paint it white.

justkeepmovingon · 16/06/2020 23:24

My downstairs loo is called duck green farrow and ball, it's a beautiful colour, as is hauge blue farrow and ball, go for it it will look fab!!

FenellaVelour · 17/06/2020 11:44

Ha ha... we have glittery walls, glittery toilet seat, and pictures on the wall of cats dressed in Renaissance garb.

The rest of the house is tasteful. Honest.

FenellaVelour · 17/06/2020 11:44

In other words, go for the dark blue!

Poppins2016 · 17/06/2020 11:54

I reckon dark blue would look fab! One of my favourite coffee shops has this colour scheme (and no natural lighting) in their loo. It's so cosy and cave like (in a good way)!
