Help!! Driveway colour to suit house - with pics!

We have a orangey red brick house - pic attached of the bricks - does grey suit for a driveway or red blocks? Not sure if red will clash or grey just not match at all. Help!! I’ve attached some pics of the sort of grey driveways I like

Why don't you have a walk around your area and see what looks best to you irl?

FizzyGreenWater · 13/06/2020 20:31

The lighter one will be MUCH better with the red.

My0My · 13/06/2020 20:43

I think either grey would work but do put in planting! Do not have acres of paving and no plants. It’s vital to break it up or it’s just one huge slab. You could have a mix of York stone and gravel which is more forgiving than lots of hard standing which leads to flooding.

Thank you everyone, do you think perhaps a red colour would go better than the grey such as this?

Attaching a pic of a crop of ours. Brownish red bricks and light grey. It looks lovely (IMO)

We thought red would be too red and clash rather than match..... a bit like double denim on a person.

Bananasandorangesss · 13/06/2020 21:34

@Zipitydoodah that looks lovely. I do agree with the double denim analogy, and it might definitely be a bit much with ours as we have such a bright orangey red. Your bricks look like a darker colour, as you say more brown red. Do you think the light orangey red will still go with grey. Your blocks are lovely - do you remember the name?

Or what about something like this which has lots of different colours in it?

@My0My yes we are planning to have a small lawned area and some planting and also hedges down the sides to soften it all up

Can I be boring and ask about drainage/runoff?

I agree about double denim. I don't like the dark grey either.

Pluckedpencil · 13/06/2020 22:00

I like the one bananasandorangess suggested. Really nice. Quite unusual too.

Pluckedpencil · 13/06/2020 22:01

Sorry I meant to say that last with the mixture of colours.

Bananasandorangesss · 13/06/2020 22:24

@tilder we are probably going to be putting in a drain at the edge of the driveway (forgot the technical name), still speaking to driveway companies to work that out

@Pluckedpencil it is on a driveway in my area and I walked past and liked it, might have to be really annoying and knock on their door and ask them what it is!

Where I live is a mix of bricks - yellows and reds on a nice rural estate. So lots of trees. Middle class bad everyone keeps they plot lovely.

Because grey is so fashionable, everyone is putting in grey front doors and grey driveways.

They all look terrible and they clash! Sorry

The mix brick is the only one I like as it will complement your bricks not clash.

And I applaud you for your awareness in the first place (glares at all the neighbours)

Bananasandorangesss · 14/06/2020 08:42

@CanIDigIt this is what I was worried about with the grey but wasn’t sure if it was just me!

Ok looks like I need to ask the neighbours what this mixed block is as I can’t find anything like it online!

what about autumn gold ? Google Brett autumn gold

Marshall’s do Brindle paving that’s multi coloured. They have many pictures of paving with red brick houses. Lots of choice too. They are expensive but they are good quality.
