Power substation

Hi all,

We are interested in a property whose two sides of the fence (see the red arrows) has a power substation on the other side of it with warning ‘danger of death’. We like the property but obviously don’t want to take chances especially for kids. Quite likely a wet ball is gonna go past the boundary etc. Please could you advise whether you would go for such properties? Thanks

"danger of death" applies if you climb into the enclosure, force the doors open, and start interfering with the equipment inside.

Are you planning to do that?

My0My · 10/06/2020 19:54

Probably not. Just too ugly. If it’s locked up, which I assume it is, how would you retrieve anything?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 10/06/2020 20:02

I would not...I can hear electricity and it drives me batty

pylons, substations...we used to be on really old wiring and if I concentrated I could hear that too, even indoors!

Aside from that what child isn't going to attempt to retrieve their last ball at some point? And you also have re selling to think about.

fedupandlookingforchange · 10/06/2020 20:03

I wouldn't because of the hum and reselling.

PeanutButterKid · 10/06/2020 20:05

Is it a good price? The presence of the power thingie may be giving you a good price already.

Danger of death if you enter the enclosure since its 11kV/400V sub you are perfectly safe outside it.

Ellie2015 · 11/06/2020 08:20

No it isn’t a good price. Since they have recently renovated the property like a brand new one they want to have the money back from the sale.

Thank you all for sharing your insight. Have said no for it :(

Hope you find something else to view. I think people who over renovate always ask too much money for their properties.

a lesson that you never get money back on renovations unless they are structural plus basic decoration.

your problem is shown on this thread; it is 'not cool' to understand science and many believe that a power substation is dangerous to the vicinity. Even as they charge their brickphone for the second time that day. The station isn't built for aesthetics and they may also be a small amount of noise.

good idea to train your kids not to climb fences marked 'danger of death'.
