Cracks in skirting

My skirting board is cracked all the way up my stairs. Short of having to replace it and thus requiring plastering, is there anything I can do to get rid of the cracks?

Hold on

The skirting isn’t cracked. It’s just the caulking between the skirting and the plaster.. no need to replace.

Rake out the old stuff, new thin bead of caulk, smooth off with a finger, dry, paint... done
Just search up caulking a skirtingboard on YouTube.

If you’re painting it with emulsion it sometimes crazies so I usually eggshell/gloss the caulk 1st or just keep the caulk to the skirting rather than the wall.

Depending on the movement of the area or house there may be some areas which will always crack after a year or 2.

For larger than a few mm gaps you should use a proper filler but most people would just caulk anyways.

Depending on colour some people don’t even paint the caulk after.
