it is 16 years old. Totally rancid and dirty. I borrowed the neighbours carpet cleaner but it did little. what can I throw at it to get the dirt out?

budget is max £20. Could I do something with bleach? there is no way I can afford to replace it. just want all the stains and dirt out.

I sometimes use biological washing powder in a carpet cleaner. It seems to help a little, but after sixteen years I'm afraid a lot of those stains are going to be pretty well set.

vanish spray carpet cleaner is actually quite good you spray a good thick foam on use a soft broom to scrub it into the carpet and then hoover when its dry I use it on small stains that are not worth getting the shampooer out for

What carpet cleaner did you use?
I swear by the numatics carpet cleaning shampoo that they use in the George but you can use it in other cleaners. Or alternatively save for a little bit and get professional in. We had our stairs and large landing cleaned for £60 and I swear it smelt amazing and looked brand new. Worth every penny!
