Floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes or up to picture rail?

Hi I’m looking to buy some IKEA pax wardrobes with mirrored hinged doors. Available in two heights, one would go almost up to the ceiling and I’d plan to have the few cm gap filled in so they look fitted. Or the other height would go up to the picture rail so you’d see the top of the wall behind them. I’m wondering if ceiling height would make the room feel more closed in/smaller? We have ceiling height sliding mirror doors at the moment (very old and can’t wait to get rid of them) and the storage at the top is great but full of rubbish I could probably get rid of. But would I miss it if I didn’t have it?! If I had picture rail height I wouldn’t put anything on top of the wardrobes as I think that would defeat the object of keeping it looking more open. It’s an ok size room, approx 16x13 and the wardrobes would run along one entire wall. I just can’t make up my mind!

If you have the ceiling height to take the extra tall pax wardrobes then I don't think they'd make the room feel small, especially not with mirrored doors. I'd see the storage as useful and hate the dust gathering if you didn't have the tall ones. DM has them and they look great.

I'd have the floor to ceiling ones personally. That's what we've got and I use the top bit to store Xmas presents/decorations, photo albums etc. I think it looks neater in a room and saves on dusting!

Floor to ceiling absolutely! From a design perspective it’s better for the eye to travel around the room and not stop at any one point. Wardrobes that cut off at a height not at a ceiling in my opinion don’t allow the flow in the space.

Floor to ceiling although it took me a while to get used to (Because of the height)

If you go to picture rail - it just gathers dust and you will ultimately end up using it for storage
