Up-cycling Tips - Farmhouse Table

Hi, I have purchased a small farmhouse table and 2 x chairs from ebay that I want to upcycle - ideally I want the table top to be natural and then the table legs and chairs to be painted.

We have purchased a hand sander (electric) and I have purchased some Farrow and Ball paint (Estate Eggshell in House White) - but other than that I do not know what to do - do we prime the bits to be painted, do we varnish the top or just add protective oil? do we need to do anything to protect the legs once painted?

We have just bought our first house and are new to this...attached is a picture of what we have bought and what we want it to look like!

Thanks

I use clear acrylic decorators varnish, oil based varnish changes the colour of the paint.
