To tile or not to tile...

We’re having a bathroom refit. Currently, the whole thing is tiled in big tiles. We’re having the bath replaced with a walk in shower so I’m thinking of tiling the shower area in subway tiles and having the rest of the room painted. I don’t like huge tiles so although they’re cheaper, I’d rather avoid them and have subway tiles but they’re more expensive so I thought I’d have less of them in the area they’re needed most. Does anyone have experience of this? I’ve seen it in plenty of other bathrooms but have to convince my husband!

Only partially tiling a bathroom looks more modern and is cheaper. You can also update the look of the bathroom by changing paint colour or artwork. Go for it.

Using subway tiles floor to ceiling on all walls can look a bit like a public toilet if you're not careful. They look much better covering part of a bathroom only.
