Paint kallax IKEA units

We've got quite a lot of the IKEA kallax units, it seems a shame to get rid of when they do such a a good job but would like to paint them to fit a new colour scheme. Are they paintable? I'm thinking painting beech to grey. Anyone done?

Not kallax specifically but I've painted other Ikea furniture, and some other cheapy veneered stuff. These drawers were beech. I used a paint called frenchic, doesn't need any priming etc, just a good clean first (and I think they recommend a quick sand just to key the surface, but pretty sure I didn't bother with that)
