Replacing French Doors

We have French Doors with fixed glass panels to each side.
The glass is blown in one of the doors and we're looking to replace them.

Could we just replace the doors or would we need to replace the side panels too?
How big a job is this and does anyone have an indication of approximate costs?

You could just replace the glass?

BubblesBuddy · 30/05/2020 10:30

Replacing the glass is cheap. Decent French doors will be £1000 at least and then there’s the hardware and locks, paint, glazing and fitting costs. I am not sure of the cost of composite ones. Possibly less.

We've had no end of bother since the doors were (very badly) installed.

They've dropped. We've had someone out to adjust the screws, we've had the glass packed and lifted and the last bloke popped the seal and they are still not closing properly- hence the need for new ones!

We'll get a couple of quotes. I'm just hoping someone can tell me it's an easy job and my garden room is not going to be ripped apart while they do it!

We're expecting it to be in the £thousands but happy to pay for quality that lasts!

It could be that the doors are too large and/or in the sun/warm weather the expansion and contraction is causing issues.

Just wanted to warn you that new doors may not solve the problem!

We have newish patio doors that are south facing. There is some degree of sticking but that's because of the heat. Ours cost about 2k fitted, and we have one side window.

Here's a pic, they're anthracite grey outside.

OP here: We've had a couple of quotes. The glaziers have said they can reseal the unit and rehang the doors. Price in the region of £300 so certainly not the disruption I was afraid of.
