What do you think of this house?

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-81437618.html

It needs central heating installing and not all the windows are double glazed but I think it could be amazing right? I'd remove the sauna Shock and not sure how I feel about the downstairs bathroom but that's probably because I'm not used to it.

Opinions on living in Gosberton too?

Wow, that decor’s...distinctive. Certainly done by someone who, err, knows what they like.

HouseinLincs · 24/05/2020 19:00

I know, it's certainly opened my eyes up to people's different tastes..I'm just trying to imagine it without all of that and making it abit more modern but still in keeping with the cottage feel.

Wow I grew up in Gosberton!

Well I guess MN would like it cos everyone does the 11-plus so all the bright kids go to the single sex selective schools and all the rest go to the sec mods. Having experienced it I'm not a fan.

Do you have kids OP? You'd be six miles from the nearest town where there is frankly not much happening (no cinema, no decent shops). I did not love it as a teenager. Even living in Spalding would have been better.

Do you already live in Lincs or why do you want/need to move there?

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2020 22:05

I think it could be lovely. I suspect an elderly woman or couple live there and have done for a long time and ha e put their own stamp on it.

Stripped bare, new neutral carpet, I think it could be lovely.

Sarahlou63 · 24/05/2020 22:05

@clary - so did I! Small world Smile

OdeYellerBelly · 24/05/2020 22:12

@clary and @Sarahlou63 also from very close by. I'd agree about being a teenager in a fen village...,

giantangryrooster · 24/05/2020 22:23

Oh my, can't get past the carpet on the bath. Need a lot of work.

clary · 24/05/2020 23:10

Wow who knew sarahlou and yellerbelly! It's not the biggest place, eh? Wow I was so glad to leave 😂😂

HouseinLincs · 25/05/2020 00:19

@clary yes we have a 1 year old. We don't live in Lincs currently but my mum does. We also wouldn't be that far from in laws which is important. We're trying to find interesting, quirky houses that aren't too expensive and Lincs keeps coming up. I don't love the fact that there's not much around though.

Is your work pretty mobile op, cos there aren't many jobs round there.

There's a reason houses are cheap! My mum lived there for years and moved from a huge home to a much smaller one in the east Mids city I live in...she was shocked at the price she had to pay to come here but as I said, look, here in the city you have a big hospital 10 mins away, good bus service into town with cinemas, cafes, adult ed classes, concerts, shops... these things you do not have in south Lincs.

No way I would live there, sorry op. Where do you live now? Is it the middle of nowhere?

Sarahlou63 · 25/05/2020 13:41

I left almost 40 years ago...no amount of money could persuade me to live there again.

HouseinLincs · 25/05/2020 14:18

Ahhh this isn't looking good! We live in a town now, a lot of amenities around. My fiancé WFH and I'm a SAHM. It's so hard to find out a house we think we could love that is affordable and in a good area.

OP posts:
clary · 25/05/2020 14:31

Gosberton doesn't come under my definition of a good area lol! Tho I guess the crime rate is low. And there's plenty of open space. I suppose it depends what you like to do and how much you value healthcare, public transport, choice of schools, leisure facilities etc.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/05/2020 15:13

Lincolnshire is really cut off from the rest of the Country OP, transport links are terrible. There's a reason for all the cheap property as PPs said!

CarpeVitam · 25/05/2020 15:17

That hurt my eyes! 🤣

TheMandalorian · 25/05/2020 15:30

I grew up near there and then moved to Sheffield for uni. I wouldn't ever go back there. I wouldn't recommend the area. Attitudes are very parochial generally. Hardly any jobs and there really isn't anything to do. I visit my mum in spalding with my 6 and 4yo. There really is hardly anything for them to do there. You will definitely need a car. Boston hospital does not have a very good reputation either. Big underaged drink and drugs culture when I lived there in 90s.
The house is actually rather nice once you've redecorated, etc.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/05/2020 16:00

Boston hospital is so bad that the university of Nottingham withdrew its paediatric nursing students from there!

BlessYourCottonSocks · 25/05/2020 16:08

North Lincs here. That strikes me as expensive for what it is, frankly. Lots of nicer areas of Lincolnshire (and I grew up round here too)

I'd agree that teen life was dull - but I grew up in the 1970s and frankly, teen life anywhere was probably dull. It's better now. But you will be taxi-ing your child everywhere if you buy in any Lincolnshire village.

Pelleas · 25/05/2020 16:13

I know nothing about the area but the house has bags of potential. I agree about keeping the cottage feel.

HouseinLincs · 25/05/2020 21:58

Thanks for all the info, it has given us lots to think about!

I would go for Horncastle or Woodhall Spa over Gosberton.
