Has anyone installed air con units in a loft bedroom? Just wonder what the rough cost is to instal as am considering it.

About 1.8 k I was told. I've just got a portable one to try for 300 from Argos.

That was a quick reply! Thanks. I have a portable one which is ok but it’s noisy and a faff with the hose out the window etc.

We have just done this -£1800 fitted for a Mitsubushi unit. Worth every penny last night when it was 28 degrees! It’s a heat pump so als does heating too.

Air con will feature in phase two of our bungalow works (some years away when we're not penniless!) for the upstairs loft conversion...

That’s good to know. Is it one that needs to be attached to an outside wall?

Yes, it’s on an outside wall, down the side of the house. To be honest I wouldn’t have mounted the unit there (you can see it from the street) and if anything ever goes wrong with it it will be a pain in the arse to get to (it was installed before the scaffolding came down for the loft/roof works). In theory, you can install the exterior unit reasonably far away from the interior one but it’s a more complex installation.

Does anyone know if the unit has to be attached to an outside wall or if you put it very close to outside wall could it have a vent attached? Our outside wall is pretty much covered by a big window and with only about 30cm above it. Really need to do something about the heat! The other outside wall is on the front (slope). This bedroom shares a wall with the other semi house next door so that rules a wall out as well.

Have you tried an aircooler...the Dyson one is expensive but worked for us.
