Distance between kitchen island and units

We are having an island built which will house the hob and the sink will be on the wall run which will be an L shape behind 2 sides of the island.

I was wondering what people feel is the ideal distance between the wall run and the island. Is it better to have it a bit narrower e.g 1m so everything is at hand or have a bit more space?

At least 1m. Enough space to fully open oven/dishwasher door etc.

A diagram would help... If there's space I would have the gap wide enough to stand at a fully open door and pull out whatever is going in the base units. If there isn't room to do that, I think it will be cramped.

Just measured ours
It’s 1.2m

There is plenty of space but I am wondering what the max/ ideal distance would be? Presumably I want to minimise walking wholst ensuring enough spsce to open things. I will try to upload a diagram later.

Thanks LovingLola would you say the 1.2m works well?

Yeah, I'd say 1.2m/4ft minimum. You need space to open things while still standing there, and you need space for two people to pass each other.

@weepingwillow22

Yes it’s perfect. Plenty of space to open doors in the island and the wall cabinets
And space for people to pass by

Thanks all. 1.2m it is then.
