Rightmove- question for estate agents

My agent listed my house for sale on Rightmove mid-feb and it went under offer within 5 days. The sale fell through around 6 weeks later post lockdown. Agent confirmed that the property had been placed 'on hold'. We decided to take the property off the market it and relist it once the restrictions were eased. Agent confirmed property had been removed from portals.

This week we asked our agent to relist the property. It has appeared back online but under the original listing, and therefore looks as though it has been on the market since Feb.

When speaking to agent he said thisnwas down to rightmove and nothing they could do. I spoke to someone else in the office who said it was probably because the property had been placed on hold, and not removed.

The reason we took it off the market was so it could be relisted. If not, i would have just kept it on the market for people to online view during lockdown. The problem now is it has now randomly appeared back online but several pages back so more unlikely buyers will notice it (as a buyer i only look at the first page or so as i know i have viewed and discounted any earlier properties).

Do any estate agents on here know if this is correct? Would rightmove have put it under the original listing or is it an error on my agents part? Also, if we remarketed with a new agent, would this result in a new listing?

They need to message Rightmove, explain the circs and request it appears as a new listing. Rightmove will decide if they want to amend but they nearly always do 😊

A new agent would make the listing appear as new

Google how Rightmove works. If you keep property with same agent you need to keep it off RM for 14 clear weeks if you want your house to appear with a 'new' listing date ... or change agents, wait 2 weeks, and then put it on to get the new date.

@FauxFox thanks, I believe they are contacting rightmove but seemed to think it wouldn't make any difference.

@baitandswitch thanks, I didn't know this.
