Can I paint these tiles?

I was wondering whether it would be possible to paint these kitchen tiles, is there even such a thing as tile paint? I was hoping for a pale, sea grass green, but may have to go darker.

I'd like to save myself a good £4-500 that it would cost to re- tile.

Can I paint these tiles?

Or, can I canvass opinion, would these tiles put you off if you were viewing a house? I'm thinking of selling, and I know they would put me off!

I actually like them! Blush

Loofah01 · 13/05/2020 14:10

They're horrible (sorry) but tile paint is worse. Tiling is not a dark art so you could save money by doing it yourself

cookielove · 13/05/2020 14:11

I have seen some tile stickers on etsy i was thinking of trying!

stillfeelingmad · 13/05/2020 14:14

Good quality tile paint done well can look amazing and definitely cheaper then re tiling, my mum did her kitchen and it looked really nice.
Having said that tiling actually isn't that hard but probably not worth it if you're selling

sqirrelfriends · 13/05/2020 14:15

Tile paint does exist, as do tile stickers but IMO it never looks quite right. I would be tempted to tile that myself, it's a lot easier than it looks.

pickingdaisies · 13/05/2020 14:16

I think tile paint would put me off more than the tiles. It would make me wonder if anything else had been covered up, OP, sorry, but house hunting makes you cynical. Also, I wouldn't have chosen them but I don't think they're too bad.

I've recently used tile paint, like painting with melted elastic glue!! Got a good result but was a horrible job to do!

DrinkingInTheNightGarden · 13/05/2020 17:46

Tile paint is fine if you do it well BUT your tiles are quite dark. I'd probably suggest new handles for the cupboards, maybe something satin nickel or dark bronze and when taking pics completely clear the sides, in fact clear everything in your house. Look up 'home staging' on Pinterest for help. We sold our house in 3 weeks and I put a lot down to my home staging Grin

Cosmetics never put me off buying a place.

changeisasgoodas · 13/05/2020 19:37

Thanks all. I think, taking your comments into account, I'll give the painting a miss. I don't think I'd do a good job and it would look even worse.

Think I might just change the handles, as suggested, and clear the decks a bit. I just worry that the tiles aren't even innocuous, a bit in your face. I would want to change them immediately if I bought a house with them ( as I do now. )

Oh, and I liked the tile transfers, but my tiles are a bit bumpy and "rustic" ( horrible) so don't think they'd work.

They're not a deal-breaker for me, but is there more? ;) :D

pickingdaisies · 13/05/2020 20:58

New handles would make a huge difference, good call. I don't think whoever buys would be put off by tiles if the kitchen itself looks nice, which yours does. They can decide if they want to paint or replace them.

TorkTorkBam · 13/05/2020 21:07

Buyers like a small thing they can change to make a big difference. Leave them.
