Moving to Didcot or Abingdon - which area?

I will shortly be moving from Yorkshire to either Didcot or Abingdon. My DH has a new job there but we can't decide whether to go for Didcot or Abingdon. We have a 20 month old DD. Crucially, I don't drive due to being partially sighted. We aren't too fussy, we just want a safe neighbourhood. If you live in either place could you give me an insight into how you find it living there?

I live in Abingdon. It's a lovely town with great outdoor space, especially down by the river. Some really nice pubs, restaurants and cafes. The town centre is nice with a weekly market as well as a regular farmer's market. The only downside is the lack of shops. A lot of the retail units are empty and other than Poundland and Boots, there's not much in the way of big names. That said, your only 5 miles from Oxford.
Didcot is only a few miles down the road. It's not as picturesque as Abingdon and feels a bit more rundown. However it has two major plus points over Abingdon. It has a a lot more shops - M&S, TK Maxx, Next etc. It also has a train station for easy access to London, Reading, Bristol etc.
Both towns are safe and great places to bring up kids. Where will your DH be working? Have you looked at places like Wallingford, Watlington etc?
