Has anyone moved into a house that wasn't vacant during lockdown?

Hi,

I'm desperately trying to find out if this is actually possible, so would be could to hear from those who have actually done this.

It seems as though moving to a vacant house is allowed, but a non vacant house seems to be a grey area.

If you're adhering to the SD guidelines and you wear gloves and masks etc and anti bac the house from top to bottom, surely this could be allowed.... If you're right at the end of the process and have a lot to lose, like us.

TIA

So you are moving into a house which already has someone in it?

Smallgoon · 11/05/2020 21:03

what do you mean by non-vacant? Are you moving into a rental with other tenants? be specific

Yes, that's not very clear is it..Confused

Vacant as in it hasn't been empty at all and the vendors are moving out the same day as you.

do you have to move in the same day that they move out?

Tbh @Smallgoon, I don't know. Our last move, we were FTB moving into an ex rental, so vacant.

I would think it becomes much more complicated if you don't. We wouldn't necessarily need to practically speaking, because our buyers are investors, but legally, I'm not sure, as we would be technically living in their property. Plus there are our sellers and their onwards.

Yes me, though I did exchange before lockdown. I was in a chain of 4 so we all moved the same day, there was a suggestion about delaying the completion but I nipped that in the bud with a firm no. 3 of the chain (me included) moved into occupied houses.

Moved into my house on 15 April, just waited until my vendor left with her removers then went in after a socially distanced key handover.

I wasn't bothered about deep cleaning etc as I'm not too worried about catching Covid, still here 3 weeks later!

Lawyers etc all worked from home, to be fair all searches/surveys were done pre lockdown. No problems with land registry.

I'm sure the guidance I've seen thus far suggests there be flexibility around this from buyers and sellers where possible. The homeowners alliance website was where I read up on it:
