Damp smell on carpet

We had our carpets replaced and shortly after, my three year old spilt water on it - maybe a cups worth - on it but never said anything. Now it smells really damp ALL the time, just on that patch.

Is there anything I can do? Bloody typical it’s on new carpet! Someone said white vinegar but surely it will just smell of vinegar?? I tried Febreze but no luck.

Contact Autosmart they sell valeting products and sell several de odorisors, they do a carpet shampoo called risk which is excellent

A solution of biological washing powder will deal with the smell. Stamp on an old towel over the top of the area once you've gone over it so that it is as dry as possible.

how long ago was this spillage?

Probably mildew.
I’d probably peel back the carpet and check the underlay. If the underlay is fine, any antifungal would work on the carpet. White vinegar is as strong as bleach without the bleaching affect and the smell dissipate. However if you are reluctant to use white vinegar, you can buy bleach/chlorine free mould spray which would work just as well.
