Does anyone use a projector over a TV?

I currently have a TV sat in the corner of my living room and it seems like a really inefficient and messy use of space, especially as I could do with some extra storage.

I was thinking about getting a carpenter in (post lockdown) to make some inbuilt cupboards and bookshelves, with a pull down projector screen on the shelves, and mounting the projector on the ceiling opposite. I don't really like the look of inbuilt TV cabinets so am trying to avoid that!

However my partner reckons the contrast will be dreadful, and we'll only be able to watch TV when the room is dark. Sadly he probably has a point... anyone have any experience of using a projector over a tv? Or know of any projector brands that have found a solution to this?

I think they’re a bit naf unless you have a darkened projector room.

I use either a projector or monitor all day long (teaching). The main advantage of a TV/monitor over a projector is you don't have to close all the blinds/ turn off the lights near the front of the room and images are much sharper and clearer.
