Changing Loft Ladder Springs

We have a wooden loft ladder - spring loaded. Here when we moved in but I think it is like this: www.wickes.co.uk/Youngman-Eco-S-Line-3-Section-Timber-Folding-Loft-Ladder/p/159937.

DH left it open all day, which has stretched the tension springs so it no longer closes properly.

I have ordered new springs, which have arrived...but now looking at it in terror of fingers being chopped off - how do we replace them?

Cannot find any instructions or videos on line. The installation are all about putting the springs on when the ladder is still un-installed.

Any experience or ideas please?

Thank you.

I've never done it, but if you contact Youngmans Ladders they can doubtless advise.

btw you may need to sit in the loft with the ladder up. When the ladder is folded, I think the springs are not under much tension.
