Anyone made a dark room dramatic with dark paint succesfully?

Got a north east facing dining room that gets a bit of direct sun early in the morning but is really dark the rest of the day. The windows are fairly larfe but no light comes in really.

It's a big room with period features, moulded ceiling, big fireplace.

We'll be using it primarily as a dining room in the early evenings in winter.

I'm tempted to go dark and make it dramatic and dark with dark green, or blue or a rich red - with woodwork all white. Has anyone done this in a really dark room and it worked?

I have. I painted my bedroom a really dark green colour, almost black (Obsidian Green by Little Greene) I love it and sounds very similar to your room in terms of original features. My only warning is that it took so many more coats of paint than I expected to stop it looking patchy. I do love it though and if I could persuade my DH I'd definitely do downstairs as well.

I’m a big fan of dark rooms.
Balance it out with groups of pictures/mirrors/lamps and you will love it.
