it needs to let through some light.
balcony is tiny, would need to be 90x200cm, most I can find start at 400cm.
bamboo looks shit after a year, so that's out.

maybe I'm just not looking for the right term...

Is the balcony glass or railings?

woodencoffeetable · 03/05/2020 11:24

it's metal railings

Simple white material of some sort tied to the railings, to pass through the light? A sheet or something more permanent like that plastic box-structure sheet you get about 3mm thick.

IKEA do something that might work....

But if you have a google there are lots of other ideas that might work for you rather than bamboo

BubblesBuddy · 05/05/2020 17:03

I like it as it is. Airy and pleasant.

woodencoffeetable · 05/05/2020 17:10

I like it, but it's very overlooked by the communal garden below and neighbours either side.
my 5am cuppa on a workday I like to have privacy.

thanks for the ikea link. will have a look.
was also thinking of getting rope and weaving it through.

Could you order some Perspex sheeting that was cloudy rather than clear cut to the size you need ? A conservatory company may be able to help.
A roller blind fixed to the floor, you pull it up and hook it to the top.

BubblesBuddy · 05/05/2020 17:37

Is everyone looking up at you then - at 5am? How unusual. I’d risk that and assume no one was bothered about looking at me. Are you the only home with a balcony or is there a myriad of screens on other balconies? I guess you knew it wasn’t private when you bought it. Most balcony screens are ugly except opaque glass.

MrsMaryBOOface · 05/05/2020 18:03

I wonder if Screen with Envy would be able to do a panel that big, I keep eyeing up their fences/screens

woodencoffeetable · 05/05/2020 18:22

Is everyone looking up at you then - at 5am? not everyone, just every now and then a nrighbour taking out the dog at that time.

plus of course using the balcony during daytime fully dressed as well

you can get coloured Perspex - seem to remember seeing it on one of those house improvement programs??

BubblesBuddy · 06/05/2020 00:15

So you are not dressed at 5am? What are you wearing then when the dog walkers pass?

mintyt · 06/05/2020 06:59

I like the idea of a roller blind, then you can pull it up and down as needed as it's a nice view, I wouldn't mind someone seeing me out there but I wouldn't want them to chat to me at 5am either
