tile stickers

We have large ugly tiles (20x24cm) in our downstairs loo and I can't find any tile stickers the right size to go over them.

So...my question is- will I get away with using 10x10cm stickers or will it look crap/ peal off?

Paint them and then put the stickers on in the middle?
