Thin hedge - very nosy neighbour, is there anything I can use to screen?

I have an extremely unpleasant neighbour and very thin hedge (it will be a little better when it fully greens up but it’s still not great). He has decided to put a compost heap up against the hedge his side (no back to it, just a heap of rubbish) which gives him an excuse to peer through our hedge several times a day. Is there anything I can use to screen our side without damaging our hedge? Thanks.

Or a couple of posts & this but not too close to the hedge or it won’t grow leaves that side. Maybe post on the gardening thread for more ideas? Sorry for the huge links, no clue how to make small links.

Have you got a reasonable sized garden? If so I’d grow a leylandaii hedge.
