Advice on noise nuisance

Flutterby63 · 27/03/2020 15:18

I rent a flat and a neighbour on a different floor across the other side of the building has been playing loud music EVERY night for two weeks from 8pm to midnight.

It's so loud I can hear it over the TV and with all double glazed windows closed!

A couple of us have now complained to landlord, the response was that they contacted the tenant and reminded them to keep noise to a minimum from 11pm to 7am.

The thing is, our tenancy agreement specifically says no noise at any time (I know that would be impossible of course).

Anyway, today the tenants started the music early, it's been going since 2pm.

Just what you want during a lockdown. Is there anything else I can do?

regrettably not. The only remedy a landlord has for antisocial tenant behaviour or tenancy breach is to evict, that takes months at the best of times and is now banned.

council noise officers are still working although the bar for behaviour is very low. You could try them.

any rotten fish you could put through their letterbox?

Ha maybe I'll try the fish. I guess I can remind the landlord of the specific clauses about not making noise in our outside the property that disturbs others and asking them to formally remind the tenant that they are in breach.

Thanks

It takes a special kind of wanker to be so antisocial and inconsiderate given the current situation. Have you tried asking them to keep it down or wear headphones?

mencken · 28/03/2020 17:14

what wowfudge says. Why ANYBODY who likes their doofydoofy music (or any music) loud won't wear headphones is beyond me.

Flutterby63 · 28/03/2020 17:23

Right? You'd think people would show a bit of consideration right now. I tried knocking but they couldn't hear me. Grin Left a note which they've apparently ignored.

Meanwhile, today builders have been working outside since 7am (Saturday) with the digger and all sorts to lay a new car park, making so much noise my flat vibrates. Still going at 5.30pm. People are tw@ts.
