Exchanged and meant to be moving......

Just this really. We exchanged start of March and meant to be moving in April.
What should we do? I'm not sure if we will be able to get movers, will even be allowed outside of the house in a few days, let alone weeks?
Obviously if we pull out we lose the deposit that we have saved 10 years for.

My husband and I are both freelance and he has lost his nest 2 months work.
What should we do? We tried to speak to our solicitor who if firmly in the camp of that it's all going to blow over, but it isn't is it?

My local small family removal firm were outside a house today.

Removals are still going on but they have very little work and so some will close.

It isn’t going to blow over, no, and it’s irresponsible of solicitors to be saying it is.

I think you need to go with your gut on this one. Do you have any savings left over which you can pay the mortgage with for a few months? If so then you have that element of security at least. Do you need to hire movers? Could you hire a van and self-move? Even in lockdown countries (Spain, Italy, Germany) its still allowed to break isolation for a pre-arranged house move.

If you won’t be able to pay the mortgage and can’t move yourselves I’d be looking to negotiate with the seller about either pushing completion back or withdrawing without losing your entire deposit in recognition of the circumstances.

Currently in the process of buying a new home too (early stage, had the offer accepted and just engaged a solicitor) and it's scary as all hell.

Good luck!

House moves are still allowed. Finding a reliable moving team is another thing. We moved house last week and half the team were off self isolating, so we ended up doing a lot more lifting and helping than expected! (We were just grateful to get through completion unscathed though) What’s your chain like? Your husband may have lost work, but will it be any different moving and paying a new mortgage to staying, losing your deposit, and paying rent? I’d be trying to push through personally as losing deposit would be a huge blow. Can you complete earlier? Move yourself? Put stuff in storage in order to have minimal stuff to move?
