Do you have a breakfast bar?

If you have one like the one attached can I ask what width your overhang is i.e. underneath from the back of the cupboards to the edge of the breakfast bar? Trying to figure out what a minimum comfortable width is for sitting at.

Someone (either builders or kitchen fitters) have messed up their measurements which is leaving us with a width of only 22cm v the 30cm I was expecting. They can make some adjustments which will get us to 26cm possibly to 28cm. The radiator has already been fitted and (ideally) can't be moved. Is 26/28cm wide enough?

Do you mean depth of 28cm? I’ll measure mine tomorrow

Moo31 · 19/03/2020 00:46

Yes @manchestermanchester thank you!

Hi, I have the above. The total counter top is 34cm wide. I’m not sure how much is an overlay but the 34cm was enough for me to eat my dinner on and I didn’t think it was an issue with leg space. I am however short and fat.

Do you think the breakfast bar will be used? I find them overrated but I don’t have your house. I would look at stool depths though.

My post is kind of helpful lol.

Touch and go, really. 30-40cm would be normal, mine is 34cm.

Get them to squeeze as much extra depth out of it as possible. Do you have your bar stools? Get them to fake the surface up, grab a bowl and spoon and make sure you can work with whatever they can eke out before committing.

We have 12 inches and according to our kitchen designer that’s standard, at least for the US. 12 inches = 30.5 cm so I reckon 28 cm might just be ok. You could possibly get away with less if it’s literally just for the kids to eat breakfast but we eat most of our meals at ours and I wouldn’t want much less leg room than we have currently.

You need a minimum of 30cm and ideally more. We have about 34 and seems ok

Don't have one but kitchen planning now so this is really useful. Sorry to derail but do they get used? I am on the fence as space is tight and I am concerned I like the thought of one more than the reality.

We have a 30cm overhang which is comfortable for the adults and dc in house. I wouldn't want anything less though.

ShellieEllie · 19/03/2020 17:22

Ours is 30cm

BubblesBuddy · 19/03/2020 17:54

Mine is 230mm deep and is perfect. You could need a bit more if you are tall but we eat meals at ours comfortably and have bar chairs from Neptune that slide under it perfectly.

fruitbrewhaha · 19/03/2020 18:34

Ours is 30 cm too

Moo31 · 19/03/2020 19:48

Thank you all. The kitchen company took some of the units away today and trimmed the back down (it was wasted space anyway as drawer units) so we are getting 29cm!! Grin

@BubblesBuddy would you mind sharing a pic of the type of stools you have? We have picked ones but I'm not sure about them Confused

@slightlysurvivingtillsaturday I had a previous thread with my plans asking for opinions and it was very much divided over the breakfast bar! We have knocked through kitchen and dining room and had the space (just about!) I grew up with one at my parents although it was lower than worktop height so I'm used to having one and having dinner at it every night. Previous layout of our kitchen had limited continuous workspace so we're getting that with the run of worktop which is doubling as the breakfast bar.

My breakfast bar is actually a circular “table”. It’s actually 250 mm deep! Typo before. The chairs are Neptune Suffolk. Picture of my kitchen and their web site picture attached.
