Zopa/ online EAs- what happens if sale collapses before exchange of contracts?

As the subject says, has anyone had any experience with Zopa (or any other online EA) where their house sale has fallen through?
Then what happened, did you have to pay the fee again, or did the original estate agent step back in without you having to cough up for a 'new sale'?

Also, is it the central 'aftersales' team that work with buyers and their conveyancers to progress the sale to exchange and completion or does the original agent remain involved?

TIA
