Living in Cheam

oliv34 · 14/03/2020 09:46

My DD is going to Epsom College in September.

We are looking at Cheam as there are nice properties about 10 mins from the station. Epsom school bus gos through here.

I read previous threads but need a current advice. How is it living in Cheam? What the best roads? Safety? Any other advice? Things we need to know? Is West Drive a recommended road?

Thank you 🙏

I used to live around that area. Cheap is lovely but avoid North Cheam as it's a bit... grubby? Probably best way to put it. You can get a bus easily to Morden tube station from there which is a bonus for getting to London.

MIL lives in North Cheam and it's fine, you can walk to Nonsuch Park from it. She lives a stones throw from big Sainsbury's. It's due regeneration to get rid of the eyesore office block. We lived in Cheam Village. Was really lovely but pricey for houses. Whole area is a pain for parking so make sure you get a decent sized driveway.

You're welcome OP. Nonsuch Park is beautiful and if I remember right, there is a fireworks display held there on bonfire night.

Buses in the area are very good I remember. If you want to go shopping for clothes etc, you can get to Wimbledon quite easily, which has a lovely mall and lots of cafes.

Up near Morden tube there is an Irish pub - be careful going near it at night as it's next to the bus stop that goes to Cheam... drunk leery guys try and hit on you and I had a tough time more than once trying to get them to go away whilst waiting for the bus! But just to say, this is near Morden and you're safe once back in Cheam village.

I have never heard of a proper fireworks display in nonsuch park - there is a cracking one in carshalton park though.

Yes West Drive and anywhere that side of the 217 is lovely. I must say I now feel disappointed in never having been leered at in Morden waiting for the bus - I am of a certain age though.
