Hi, I’m planning on moving to Hitchin as we Just had a little girl and would like to have more space, garden and better schools. I’ve heard HGS is amazing and SG4 9 is the best postcode however I’m not sure if my budget (600k) is big enough for SG4 9 (we don’t want a big project) We will also need to be within 1 mile to station. My question is there anywhere else in Hitchin besides SG4 9 that will get my daughter to HGS and good/outstanding schools. And are there any schools to avoid.

Thanks in advance x

Sorry I meant, is there anywhere else besides SG4 9 that will get my daughter into good/outstanding primaries and HSG? Obviously I understand nothing is a guarantee

Dont worry too much. All the secondary schools are really good. The priory is mixed, which may suit your daughter better, and by all reports is an excellent school. Also, alot can change between now and when your daughter starts school (the girls schools is talking about becoming an academy with a school in baldock, so their admission policy may change).

My advice, forget schools. Come and have a look at what you can afford (it is a pricy wee town for property) and go from there.

Market has been deathly slow, but quite a few new properties came on last week. It is a fab place to live. Spent yesterday catching frogs and watching the long horn cattle.

Thanks so much for the advice. It sure is a lovely town. I’ve only visited once and really liked what I saw. My partner grew up in Royston so knows quite. But he doesn’t necessarily know what the best streets/area for young family. Do you know if Bearton road area is a good area for schools and just general family life ?

Yep fab. Close to town, two closest primaries both excellent. Walking distance to both the secondaries as well. About 15 min walk to the station. Parking can be a bit of an arse this end of town and properties tend to be Victorian terraced.
