Boiler's stopped working!

Our combi-boiler stopped working this afternoon. I've organised for someone to come out tomorrow morning to look at it.

In the meantime, does anyone have suggestions on how to keep the house from getting too cold tonight? I've got a 2yo and a 3.5yo.

buy some electric heaters.

Too late for today, but handy next time.

At this time of year, winter stocks are being sold off at clearance prices.

Oil-filled radiators are I think the safest. You can get a 600w one which will just about keep a bedroom from being too cold, given reasonable insulation.

A living room needs at least 2kW, preferably one at each end of the room to prevent cold spots, and use the thermostats to prevent overheating and energy wastage (energy from electricity is about four times the cost of gas).

In a bathroom you could add a dual-fuel or electric towel rail. It will not give out much heat when wrapped in a thick insulating layer of towels.

For an adult bedroom, an electric blanket.
