What's my worktop made of and how do I look after it?

Any ideas what worktop is made of? Seems to be two pieces of stone sandwiches together, bottom piece is just trim. Mdf underneath.

Also, how do I know if it needs sealing or something?

Is it a thin granite worktop over a standard Formica one? Difficult to see from the picture. It could be a granite cover.

It's two pieces of the same material. Could be granite as you suggest.

Does granite have to be sealed regularly? Can you polish it ?

Hard to tell just from looking, but it's likely a thin solid top in quartz or granite, with a MDF base and quartz/granite trims to give the illusion of depth.

Most solid surface worktops these days come pre-sealed and don't require any maintenance at all aside from cleaning.

You can buy specialist cleaners if it's gone dull, and if it's stained then it's possible to sand, refinish and re-seal it.

Thanks! Will look into that

Are you able to see the underside, either by removing a drawer or rolling out a tumble dryer or washing machine?
There might be some sort of stamp or label that will identify what it is.
