Ideal boilers - any good?

I'm currently debating options on new boilers as current one is on its last legs. Our area does an energy scheme where they provide insulation and a boiler (Ideal) for about £500. However I've not heard great things about this brand. I'd always thought that when the time came, we would get a brand like Vaillant or Worcester Bosch but of course that'll be more costly. On top of that, we arent sure if we will move within the next year or so, ideally I would like to but it depends on various factors which arent clear to us yet. Can I hear your opinions on Ideal? Thanks!

I got an Ideal boiler last year. I had a look at reviews on Which and they’re fairly good. A long established company.

It’s only been about 6 months, but I’m very happy with it.

What model are you looking at?

I’ll look it up on Which website for you.

Thanks Seeing. I'm not sure of the model at present, a relative had this done last year but I'm not sure if it would be the same model or not. They arent at home just now but I'll get them to send me the details and I'll get back to you later.

I got one installed in December 2018. Been Brilliant, can't fault it. We paid extra for the 7 year warranty.

It's an Eco something or other. Cost a whole lot more than £500 though...

@Seeingadistance

I have a huge favour
Please could you look up Worcester green star 8000 life

Totally appreciate very cheeky request. Feel free to completely ignore!!

@Bringringbring12

My DM would say the cheek is all mine as it’s her membership I’m using, and for some reason she can’t get online access to Which!

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life System is a Best Buy. Which says the Pros are great reliability record; happy customers and impressed heating engineers. No serious Cons.

5/5 stars for Brand reliability; Brand customer score and Engineer recommendation.

Brand score is 90%.

Wonderful
Huge thanks

The Ideal boiler we have is 20 years old and we've not had issues with it although it is very inefficient now

PleaseNoFortnite · 06/03/2020 06:41

We got an Ideal boiler last year, again because of the Which report (Ideal was the best after the best buys, which were a lot more expensive). It's been fine so far, no issues at all, works efficiently.

It replaced an 11 year old Glow Worm boiler which was way down the list of best brands and which started leaking and eventually blew up spectacularly! So, very happy with our Ideal.

MarieG10 · 06/03/2020 06:47

I would go with the Greenstar. But would also be happy with Vallient. Know neighbours and also houses we rent have them and very reliable

Had one for 10 years on similar scheme no problems but took british gas service care.

PostNotInHaste · 06/03/2020 06:53

We had an absolute disaster with Ideal. It lasted 7 years and in the end had to have a new one as British Gas couldn’t fix it after more call outs from them and calls into Ideal than I can remember. Ideal in the end said it was beyond repair. Never again but assumably they are better now.

We're on our second Ideal boiler - first one we put into our old house and had for 4 years with no problem. Was a 25kw, paid £1800 for it.
In our current house we had a 40kw Vogue fitted to replace old boiler and immersion, paid £2,800 but it was a big job with taking everything out and putting new pipes in. We've got a 12 year warranty provided it's serviced annually so think it's a decent investment and again had no problems so far. Only time will tell but we've been happy with value for money on both of ours
