Moving to Peterborough villages

Hi all,

Just looking for some ideas and advice please. I'm looking to move to a village near Peterborough. Found some properties in Ramsey and Yaxley. I'm coming from Bedfordshire so not just down the road and outside of reading all the stats about the places, I have no real idea on what they're like to live in. DD is 7 and DS is 2. Are Ramsey and Yaxley nice?

I wouldn't call Ramsey a Peterborough village.

Yaxley is popular. A few friends and colleagues live there. It's rather a big village.

It depends what you want. Yaxley is quite a big village and not that picturesque. Holme, Stilton and Folkesworth are all around Peterborough and more villagey. Where do you need to be? Where do you commute to? We're in Peterborough itself, although in a village location.

Ah ok. They don't sound as villagey as I was hoping. I'm after somewhere safe and friendly for me and two kids, good schools/nursery, somewhere I can get a job within school hours but also where property prices aren't sky high. x

I grew up in Ramsey so my views are completely biased. It’s a horrible, backward looking little town and you’ll find yourself running a taxi service when your kids hit their teens. If it were me I’d be looking at the villages north of Peterborough towards Stamford.

Sounds very like Oundle to me.

Yaxley is very friendly apparently. I believe it's technically a village.
