Little Sutton Ellesmere Port

Hi
Presently living in Chester - renting - and now looking to buy. Know the area just by driving around and have looked at two detached houses on Berwick Road which I really like, but unsure of surrounding area so looking for some advice please. Budget around £550k but (very) happy to pay less for a refurbish project!
Thanks

Nothing wrong with little Sutton but truthfully if that was my budget I would probably not be looking there 🙈

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 20:06

Hi!
Looked at a house which has been partly refurbished- not to a very high standard and still needs a lot of work- at £550k but some of the surrounding streets didn’t look great. No offence meant to anyone but this is a big move for us and really stretching the budget so can’t afford to get it wrong.

So to me.. Little Sutton is somewhere I would be looking to get more house for my money than I could elsewhere whilst still being a relatively nice area.

But with a budget of 550k in the chester area you could have it all. A nice house and really nice area.

What area are you looking for? Village? Town centre? Are schools important? Pubs?

Gayton/parkgate/ness/Burton/Heswall/ mollington/Saughall/neston probably be where I would be looking for that side of Chester

But lots of nice villages the other side too (think tattenhall way)

Mrskeats · 03/03/2020 20:24

I am from there and it's not the best area with that budget.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 03/03/2020 20:27

Lower Heswall and Gayton are both nice.
Have family in LH and it has a real village feel.
I'd avoid Little Sutton as others have said.

TokyoSushi · 03/03/2020 20:31

Don't go to Little Sutton with £550K!

Head over Heswall way - much nicer!

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 20:43

Thanks everyone!
Looking for traditional not new home. Schools not an issue. Would like some shops nearby and a good pub! Thought about Hooton? Or Mollington but not much there apart from houses. Looked at Tarporley but think too £££.
What’s Upton on the Wirral like? Also considering Preston, Noctorum?
Like West Kirby but probably too far a commute. Like a Neston, Ness and Willaston.

Must admit was very taken with Berwick Road but very grateful for all the suggestions! Anybody who knows the road any other roads like that?

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 20:50

Looking for 3 beds with some character and some space to maybe add kitchen extension/garden room. Definitely location over size of house!

Agree with others, there are better areas for your budget. Eg this one which doesn’t have character at the moment but area is lovely and has a mahoosive garden and you could really add value (and character) www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-64998030.html

Or this in Heswall www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-79077089.html

Worth a look

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 21:12

Fudgewhizz had spotted the house at £300 and the huge garden-wasn’t sure of the area and wondered why it hadn’t already been snapped up?

OP posts:
Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 21:14

Enrique- looks like a real option, nice light rooms and garden a good size. Have only been on the Main Street of Parkgate but really liked it!

Why do you want to move out of Chester? What area are you in?

RubyViolet · 03/03/2020 21:26

Agree on Heswall, Barnston, Ness, Parkgate.

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 21:28

Hi
Presently renting near Hoole village. Would be happy to look in Chester but not much in our budget just now. Saw this house www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-77796964.html
But not sure about the road noise?

RubyViolet · 03/03/2020 21:36

Cheeky offer on this. Location, location.Would be amazing with some work.

DearPrudence · 03/03/2020 21:37

That looks lovely.
If I had that to spend I'd definitely be looking in Chester, probably in Hoole itself - not much on the market right now, I know. But great for local shops and pubs. Or Handbridge, or maybe Upton.

Good luck Smile

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 21:40

Rubyviolet looks very interesting! is it a good location? Have only looked at Oldfield Road area of a Heswall so far.

OP posts:
Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 21:40

Thanks DearPrudence.

OP posts:
RubyViolet · 03/03/2020 21:49

Oldfield Road is prime. The Beacons are nearer to town and very lovely. Everything on the ‘Lower’ side of Telegraph Road, the main road through Heswall is considered the good part. Anything in Lower Heswall, especially with a view is the most sought after. If you can get a doer upper with a view that would be amazing, the best ones sell very quickly.

RubyViolet · 03/03/2020 21:56

Definitely not Prenton or Upton.

Fudgewhizz · 03/03/2020 22:13

@Chagall1978 It’s a nice quiet road, catchment for outstanding primary, walkable to town centre and also to a lovely footpath along the estuary. I can only imagine it’s because of the work involved. The market in Neston isn't hugely fast-moving I don’t think, and places that need work tend to hang around for a while! It’s also not as ‘desirable’ as Heswall so gets overlooked, though the centre is definitely on the up and has a selection of lovely little shops and cafes.

Agree with @RubyViolet that Prenton or Upton wouldn’t be my first choice, and I’d definitely avoid Noctorum. With the exception of Oxton village, west of the motorway is a better bet.

Chagall1978 · 03/03/2020 23:04

Only mentioned Prenton, noctorum and Upton because an estate agent had suggested them too me. Is Oxton worth looking at or best avoided ?

OP posts:
Rhica · 03/03/2020 23:36

Neston is definitely a slow market. My sister was looking to buy there but the houses are all currently over priced but coming down a bit (they seemed to have increased prices even though there wasn't demand driving the increase 🤦‍♀️). But.. a perfectly nice town
