What DIY jobs do you have outstanding? What's stopping you from doing them?

Every time I clear my backlog, I seem to find myself with more maintenance/repair jobs piling up!

Currently:

  • Paint skirting boards
  • Replace leaking tap
  • Patch and paint wall holes (that I made while doing my last DIY job...)
  • Replace broken tile

Do you have to replace the leaking tap or is it just the washer? If the latter, it's a ten minute job.

My list is long. None of it takes a huge amount of time it's just finding time with a FT job, school aged DC who want to "help" and going to the gym/ hobbies 3 nights a week.

  1. Hang new coat hooks in the vestibule (too many heavy winter coats pulled it off the wall) after:

2.Build flat-pack fancy new coat unit I've bought

  1. Replace the curtain pole in DD's bedroom. A want not a need but I've wanted to do it for a while now.
  1. Polyfill/flexifill settlement cracks in extension
  1. Rebuild unit around the shower saniflo that I had to un-plumb for maintenance about 3 weeks ago
  1. Clean out the gutters - this can wait until the weather improves
  1. Replace around 7 bulbs in various light fittings around the house (DH's job so I might be waiting a while)
  1. Fix gas ring on hob that "clicks" permanently

If DH takes the kids out for half a day I might make some progress.

It never ends if you own a place because there is always something that needs doing!

BorneoBabe · 27/02/2020 08:45

@msmith501 You're right, but it's old and marked (despite various cleaning attempts!) so I thought I'd just swap it out. The sink is in good shape at least!

@JamMakingWannaBe 6. Clean out the gutters - this can wait until the weather improves

Oh god... I haven't even considered what needs doing outside yet...

@wowfudge Learning that the hard way!

My boss says his wife redecorates their house every 2-3 years so while it costs an arm and a leg, it saves him from having to do a ton of maintenance.

wardrobe for our bedroom as the second hand ikea one I bought wouldn't go back together, coming tomorrow so hopefully only a few days to have my lovely bedroom

carpet to order and get laid in the hall and stairs delayed due to above having to wait in for wardrobe to arrive

total redo of the kitchen one window waited till winter to start leaking inwards so got to wait for better weather for my son to repair it then kitchen can be ordered plastering rewiring fitting etc can be done

which leaves the front room for rewiring and redecorating

BorneoBabe · 28/02/2020 09:35
